| Engine
This word is
often used generically to indicate any type of
search engine whether it be a directory based
engine, a crawler based engine, or as is more
common today, a hybrid engine which combines
elements from both. In addition, an engine may
refer to a Pay Per Click engine where you bid
for top positions.
Search
Engines
A search engine
is a Web site on the Internet that someone may
use to find desired Web pages and sites. A
search engine will generally return the results
of a user's search ranked by relevancy. The
formula for determining what is the most
relevant varies.
Word Count
Word count is
simply a count of the total words in a given
area, not including HTML tags. Some engines may
rank pages more favorably based on whether they
have a certain number of words on the page.
Sometimes the fewer words the better, and on
other engines, more words are sometimes better.
In the case of TOTAL word count for a page, this
refers to the total words on the entire page
counting words in meta tags and other hidden
areas, but not counting the HTML tags
themselves.
